Spring Turkey 2010 Season with the G-man

Hosted The Hunters' Guild TV Show for a Jakes hunt with a lucky winner from CA.

Day 1. We picked Makenzie and her Dad Kevin up from the airport today. They were hungry after hours of travel from San Diego, Ca. We gave Makenzie several choices and she chose subway. We then went to Cabela's and bought Makenzie some new Camo so she would be all set for an exciting hunt. We met G-Man at Cabela's and off to Wyoming we went. We got settled in to our rooms by about 3:30 and its off to hunt turkeys. We saw some Turkeys in a field with a Huge tom just strut'in something beautiful. To Bad we didn't have permission to go there. On our way to our hunting grounds we saw Mule deer, turkey and Whitetail deer. We got to our hunting grounds and got settled in and we heard quite a few gobblers and some hens. We also saw 2 nice elk. It was getting late because we stopped and got hunting licenses so we decided to drag it up and head back to the lodge. We got back to the lodge tonight and had an outstanding dinner. The guys made Makenzie a cake and we had Ice cream and it's to bed soon for us all. 4:30 will come early.

 

Day 2: day 2 was very windy and cold and we never saw a Turkey. G-Man and I went out that night and got one to gobble and then day 3 started. Day 3: 5:00 AM the turkey were already gobbling there heads off. We had turkey gobbling everywhere. 6:15 AM the turkey just stopped gobbling for about 30 minutes. We kept our position and used some soft yelps and purs with an every now and then cut and yelp. 6:45 AM Jeremy sees 2 turkey heading across a field 300 yards below us and to the west. We then here another turkey gobble. We were at the Out house (An Old one that doesn't work) Its where we set up. We then heard turkeys gobble beneath us probably 75 yards. We quickly got set back up and started calling. I then saw a Gobbler strutting up on the hill. I broke out the Team Illusion Glass call and started soft purring and yelping and got the lead hen bird to come right to us. G-Man was making some soft calls as well but he was right in front of the turkeys so he helped the shooters. We had 2 gobblers come right up in front of Makenzie and her Dad 27 yards away with 6 hens and they pulled the triggers and POW 2 BEAUTIFUL Merriam's Gobblers down on Film. Day 3: I went hunting in the afternoon with my Limbsaver bow. I had Jeremy running camera and G-man running guide. We went to a new hunting spot and did some running and gunning. After probably an hour of calling, sitting with no response we finally heard a gobbler. We took off to where the gobble came from and heard 3-4 more different gobblers. We called a Beautiful Tom with in 15 yards but I couldn't get my bow back because i didn't want to spook the tom. He walked away gobbling and then another gobbler came in over the hill probably 5 yards from Jeremy and I. He was right dead smack behind us with no chance of a shot. We called to a few more gobblers and multiple hens for the next 45 minutes. We got and went to where the hens were yelping from. We set up and called with no response. Then we heard a gobble way off in the distance and we decided to cut the distance. We were walking through the woods and G-Man hit the ground like someone shot him stuck the decoy in the ground and said, BIRD, BIRD! We got set up real quick behind a tree NO BLINDS HERE and G-man gave a few soft yelps. Jeremy located the bird in the camera and the bird stepped out about 28 yards away broadside and I smoked him with the Limbsaver Bow, Victory Arrow, Lumenok, Tru-Fire Broadhead combo and he went 20 yards and pile up on his face. What a Hunt....
